Rafael Nadal has confirmed he intends to play in Spain's Davis Cup quarter-final against the USA.

21464 - Rafael Nadal wants more Davis Cup action

The world No. 1 returned to Davis Cup action for the first time in over a year to help the 2009 champions ease past Belgium, and fitness permitting, he intends to play a part in the next round.

Nadal opted to miss last year's Davis Cup action in a bid to preserve his fitness, a move which paid dividends as he claimed three grand slam titles and a return to the top of the world rankings.

But with Nadal set to be pitted against American No. 1 Andy Roddick in the best of the quarter-final clashes, the US Open champion has committed himself to Spanish captain Albert Costa, saying that he intends to play as long as he feels up to the task.

"My intention is to be in the Davis Cup," Nadal said. "My decision is always that I will play, but I don't know what will happen in four months, if I will be tired or as fresh as a daisy, I can't say.

"In tennis you can plan the tournaments you play but you never know how many matches you will have."

Spain will now face a tough trip to the United States, with Albany, Austin or San Antonio the shortlist venues to host the tie in July.

The US have a 5-4 record against Spain and with the tie likely to be on grass or fast-moving hard court, Feliciano Lopez admitted the draw had not been kind to them.

"They are one of the toughest teams we could get playing away, with [Andy] Roddick and [John] Isner and the Bryan [brothers]," said Lopez.
