Ferrari set to introduce flexible front wing

Ferrari is planning to emulate rivals Red Bull with its own version of a 'flexible' front wing.

Red Bull's wing has been the source of constant speculation since last year because it appears to run closer to the track at high speed, creating an aerodynamic advantage. The car is within the regulations having passed every scrutineering test thrown its way and earlier this weekend Red Bull boss Christian Horner said the wing looked lower simply because the car was running a higher rake angle.

Red Bull's rivals had hoped a new bodywork flexibility rule for 2011 would see the wing running higher but that has not been the case. Ferrari technical director Aldo Costa said his team would have to now develop a similar concept.

"We are going deeper in the evaluation of front wings and we will do a flexible front wing soon," he announced in Malaysia.

Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn said 24 hours earlier that he believed Red Bull's approach was one of "concept" that other teams might now need to look into. But he told Auto Motor und Sport on Saturday: "For conceptual changes, there is a limit to the resources you can tie up.

"You have to ask yourself whether it makes sense to change tack. McLaren have shown today that you can be fast even with a completely different approach."
